The company with the same name
A separately incorporated for-profit company shares our name and operates at chicagouhs.com. It is a distinct legal entity with its own registration, finances and records. Work described there is not work of this organization.
We state this plainly rather than leaving it to be discovered. Shared names across a nonprofit and a company are common and are not in themselves a problem; what would be a problem is a reader assuming the two are one organization, or crediting this nonprofit with work it did not do.
Governance
Board membership and governing documents will be published here alongside the determination. We have chosen not to summarize them in the meantime, for the same reason we have not described programs: a summary that later reads differently from the filed documents is worse than no summary.
Our current status
Chicago Urban Honor Syndicate has applied to the IRS for recognition as a 501(c)(3) organization. The application was filed on September 21, 2026 and a determination is pending. Until the IRS issues that determination we are not soliciting donations and we make no claim that gifts are tax-deductible.
